

Nessa Lynch

Dr Nessa Lynch is the Matheson Lecturer in Law, Innovation and Technology at University College Cork, Ireland and a Research Fellow at the Faculty of Law, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Her disciplinary background is in human rights and criminal justice. More recently, her work has focused on law, ethics and emerging technologies, particularly around biometric surveillance and artificial intelligence in policing and security. She has had a diverse career path, including significant high-trust roles in data ethics and technology assurance in the public sector in New Zealand, and technology ethics consultancy for a range of private sector and public sector clients. Prior to recently re-joining academia, she held a senior leadership position in New Zealand Police in the leadership, people and culture field. She is a member of the Policing and Community Safety Authority, the regulatory oversight mechanism for policing in Ireland.
